Michal Urban from Urbanix: Being green is not a pose. It’s a responsibility

“As far as we’re concerned, we don’t see it as a pose,” says Michal. “For us, values like efficiency and sustainability are important. Being ecological is not an image issue for us, but a natural part of our daily work. Topics such as saving, efficient solutions, or responsible approach are at the core of our operations – we live by them, work with them, and advance all technologies in their spirit.”

Live Sustainably, Don’t just Claim It

According to Michal, companies often make the mistake of just talking about sustainability without taking real steps. “The most common problem, in my opinion, is that they want to appear ecological, but they don’t do anything about it. If we break down what it means to be green, it’s about not just thinking this way, but also acting on it.”

That’s why at Urbanix, they educate their clients to precisely determine what they want to be ecological about and how to achieve it. If I want to be green, I need to clearly define the method, area, and expected outcome. And only then come the specific steps – using a certain technology, calculating the percentage savings, and defining individual steps A, B, C, or D with an exact result for the client.”

Savings Based on Facts

At Urbanix, they rely on certainty – everything is based on data and measurable results, not estimates. Photovoltaics clearly reduces electricity consumption. We can optimize it and then adjust the consumption curve itself using appropriate lighting and its intelligent control. Our goal is always to cover as much of the consumption as possible with photovoltaics,” explains Michal.

The results speak for themselves. “For corporate projects, we’re in the range of about 30 to 55% savings. For family homes, it’s 60 to 70%, and we achieve up to 97% energy self-sufficiency. This means that a household covers 97% of its consumption from the sun and only buys three percent,” he adds.

Accuracy and thorough analysis are the foundation of client trust. “First, we need to find out what state the client is in. This is followed by a detailed analysis, and only then do we propose specific steps. Thanks to this, we can precisely determine what equipment with what performance and reach will bring specific savings in the coming years,” Michal clarifies.

“If I know the client’s behavior, their daily energy curves, and production process, I can very accurately calculate how the business will behave. It’s essentially pure mathematics and physics,” he concludes.

Less Talk, more Action

Green topics are very popular today, but Michal warns that it’s not enough to just talk about them. “It certainly shouldn’t be just a pose. Most of these regulations have their purpose – they are areas that can really help and support values leading to efficient and sustainable behavior. However, it’s important that our steps make sense in the long term as well.”

According to him, everything should start with the individual. If everyone starts with themselves, even small steps can contribute greatly. Every employee can do a lot – for themselves, their surroundings, and for the planet. And if a person who installs technologies thinks about their life and impact on the environment, they can bring positive change. What matters are specific actions, on a specific day, by specific people.

Slovakia Moving in the Right Direction

When asked how he sees Slovakia on the topic of sustainability, Michal responds optimistically. “I perceive that we are moving forward. Many companies are starting to address this topic, especially medium and smaller ones. Either because their parent companies require it, or banks do. A lot has been talked about in recent years, and in recent months, some action has begun. And now I would say: let’s roll up our sleeves and start doing more than talking. But not because we have to, but because we want to.”

“Being ecological is not an image issue for us, but a natural part of our daily work.” – Michal Urban.

Where is Urbanix Heading?

Urbanix is clear – innovations and process efficiency are the path they want to continue on. “We’re currently working on topics like digitalization. We’re optimizing processes, we’ve been focusing on recycling for a long time, we’re gradually transitioning to an electric car fleet – but where it makes sense,” says Michal.

“We want to eliminate everything paper-based, everything inefficient. More and more, we’re focusing on digitalizing processes, speeding up and making everything we do more efficient – from communication with the client, through internal communication, to processes with suppliers.”

He looks to the future with a clear goal: “We live in these green topics. Almost all the activities we carry out either support anything green, or save clients money, or improve the quality of the environment and work. We want to help our clients and our surroundings as much as possible, burden the environment as little as possible, and provide an increasingly wider portfolio of excellent and meaningful technologies that will make life easier or better.”

Michal Urban says it directly – being green is not about slogans. It’s about how a company acts, thinks, and improves the world around it every day.
